fishin' report 11-9-12
My lone reader told me I haven't posted in a while, so here goes. Not much has happened in the harbor, fish action wise, since the big storm from out east. Finally starting to pick up a fish here and there. Randy caught 3 browns and a bluegill two days ago. He's really going to some finesse techniques by using a bobber that is just big enough to support the small tube jig. I'm guessing that the few fish that are around are so finicky, that if they feel much resistance they drop the bait. Haven't heard anything about rainbows, and they are way overdue. Roy has been out in his boat a couple of times and really hasn't conected with much since his bonanza day. As usual, if I hear anything worth mentioning, I'll pass it along, but until then these posts may be few and far between. You wouldn' like me to start blowing smoke up you know where like some people's reports would you? Later- Bob

fishin' report 10-21-12
Some people are thinking it's over. I disagree. They are still catching Chinooks that are still silver. To me that means there are still more coming from the lake. I think it's going to be a few fish trickle in every few days type of season. In reality fishing in the pike just started for the fly guys because of the rain late last week. I mean, the water is finally deep enough in a few spots for the fish to make it further west than Carthage College. I think before that there were a lot of fish bottled up in the pools just west of the lake. Remember, now that the dam in Kenosha Country Club is gone, those fish can travel to Petrifying Springs Park easier. Now, there is no longer a dam there either. So if the water is high enough, I guess the fish can get west of Green-Bay Rd. Probably end up dying is some farm field. Weird!
Anyway, just call if you think it's over, you don't have to worry about me telling you it's happening when it isn't. We don't work that way here. Later- Bob

fishin' report 10-12-12
Just a quick note to pass along that they have been killing fish every morning since Mon. on spawn in the corner of the harbor by the rocks, and in front of the tube that goes west underground on spawn. Also when the creek (Pike) was open earlier in the week it was a slaughter fest there as well on spawn. Everybody down there had fish. They basically took turns..........................Bob

fishin' report 10-11-12
Spawn seems to be the hottest ticket in the harbor. Followed closely by white tube jigs tipped with wax worms. Spoons have been good, mostly glow green no matter the profile, but very tough to get fish to hit them at times. To describe the action....I'd have to say feast or famine. Sometimes everybody seems to have a fish on, other times.....it seems like the dead sea. Hang in there, it's far from over. The DNR's open house at the Racine weir is this weekend which means there are plenty of fish still around. That's Sat. (the 13th) from 9-3 at Lincoln Park if you're interested by the way. It's a really good show. Especially for the kids, or for people that have no idea of the magnitude of the fall fish run. Continue to fish the nastiest weather you can tolerate until then. Later, Bob.
P.S. Have not heard a word about inland action.

fishin' report 10-3-2012
Only about 10 days since my last report. Not bad for me. Fishing has been on and off- the best way I can think of to describe it. Some days they absolutely kill 'em. Other days you can't buy a fish. I've been told that certain evenings glow lures have been great. Last Friday night, a night when many people can evening fish, was lousy. Some mornings in front of the beach have seen fish for everyone. Others have been a bust. It boils down to as always, if you're there when they turn on, you'll catch 'em. RAIN- without it, we're sunk. We need the Pike to flow, and the pipes to empty into the harbor. Racine has been about the same. Duck hunting has also been miserable in the SE section of the state for the same reason. Hang in there, and do a rain dance.- Bob
PS- lots of the fish that have been caught have been really clean.

fishin' report 9-21-12
They are killin' them today. All morning has been a chartreuse/glow green bite. Even rookies are hooking up. Weather- crappy, but as I've said that = good fishing. Get out there and tie into one. Finally lots of Browns are being caught. Last few days were pretty good, but today is much better. Beach has been best, but good luck finding a spot. Maybe if you showed up with a machete hanging off your belt. Not much more I can say except the weekend looks lousy too, so that should also be good. Later- Bob
PS- If I can make it out of bed,I plan on trying Silver tomorrow.

fishin' report 9-17-12
Before we talk about what's biting, I'd like to talk about the passing of a good friend. Scotty Haebig, a friend to many fishermen, hot rod enthusiasts, and drag racers, died yesterday of complications from the cancer he had been fighting since its diagnosis last fall. He was more than a fixture here, he was my right hand. He looked out for me with the love of a father, and I'll miss him like one. Scotty was so helpful in so many ways that I could never list them all. He was my sounding board for every decision I made. He made sure I got here on time, would call me when I wasn't, soothe the customers until I got here, and when I couldn't drive- picked me up at my house. It wasn't uncommon for me to get here on snow days to find he already had the entrance and sidewalk shoveled. He was in my corner for any fight or competition, he was my best advertisement, strongest ally, you name it. There was never any doubt of his support. I can't believe he's gone. No one is worthy to take his place. I think I'll retire his seat at the counter and keep everyone off of it from now on. Then maybe I can imagine him still sitting there as he always did. I've got such a hole in my heart, soul, life now that for the first time in ages I feel a little lost. Sometimes with a loss like this, you can take a little solace in the fact that the person is at least no longer suffering, but I can't even use that because I thought, as everyone did, that he was going to be back in no time. Scotty himself thought he had it beat for probably the whole time until a few days ago, at the most a week and a half ago. I've never seen anyone so upbeat and optimistic with such a good attitude. They say that's what you need to fight that disease right? I guess that just wasn't enough. Maybe he had me fooled because he was that good at putting up a good front. Usually I'm the guy that says, "everything happens for a reason", and that "God has a plan", but I can't say that this time. All I can say is that I'll miss my friend terribly.

Kings are in now. Not in big numbers. Mostly a lot of casting and not much catching.

fishin' report 9-12-12
Kings have been being caught in the harbor the last couple of days. Mon. about 5 were caught. Tues. about 10 were caught....get the drift? Most have been on the medium size white tube jigs. Some were caught with a 3/4 oz. rainbow Krocodile, but alas this spoon was part of LuhrJensen's cut backs and is no longer made. The last ones I had flew out this week. I do have some "Rocket Doctor" spoons in the same pattern on order and they should be here by Fri. the 14th. Other than that, spawn is always a good bet as are Oslo spinners, and the ever popular Little Cleo 3/4 oz. Mostly in the metallics during the day, or in the glows in low or no light conditions. Get out there and whip the water to a foam because with the unpredictability of this year, who knows how long they'll stick around. Later, Bob

fishi' report 9-3-12
Finally!!! Some fish are actually starting to show up in the harbor. Not many, but some. Seems like the last couple of days the total for the harbor has been right around 5 fish. Some rainbows, and some browns. Most have been caught on spawn. With spoons bringing up the rear. We nnow have a good supply of spawn, but that doewn't mean we ever turn down eggs. Haven't heard of any Chinooks showing up yet. We will keep watching for them. Our central European friends have been showing up in increasing numbers, so it should be right around the corner. Trolling got tough for a while, but has since gotten better. This weekend saw most troller working on their boats because the steady east winds. Delevan is still going strong. What a fish factory. Gills have moved out to their deep holding spots on Geneva so look for them in 20+. Later, Bob
